DOUBLE PUMP SUMMER TIP-OFF ALTERS TOURNAMENT FORMAT FOR 17U DIVISION

(July 5, 2017) – To enhance the level of competition at The Double Pump Summer Tip-Off next week, the 17U Division will see a slight change in the tournament format.  Here’s the breakdown:

  • 17U will have 4 sub-divisions of 32 teams:  17U Open, 17U Platinum, 17U Gold, 17U Silver
  • Each sub-division will be grouped in 4-team pools (8 pools, 4 teams each)
  • All teams will go through pool play (3 guaranteed games)
  • The winning teams of each pool in the Platinum, Gold and Silver sub-divisions will advance up one sub-division for bracket play and the teams that come in last place in the Open, Platinum and Gold sub-divisions will drop down one division for bracket play.

FOR EXAMPLE:

The 8 teams in the Open sub-division that finish in last place in pool play will drop down to the Platinum sub-division for bracket play.  The 8 teams in the Platinum sub-division that win their pools advance up to the Open sub-division for bracket play.  The same is repeated for the Gold and Silver sub-divisions.  All teams will then get seeded accordingly once bracket play begins.

Given that the standings will determine a team’s placement in bracket play, all Coaches must review the Tournament Games Rules, specifically the Tie-Breaker Rule, which is outlined on the Double Pump website under the Summer Tip-Off details page.

TIE-BREAKER PROCEDURES:

Final pool standings are determined by the win-loss records within the same pool.  Tie breaking procedures are as follows:

(1)  Head-to-head competition in a two-way tie

(2)  Point differential in all pool games with a maximum of 15 points (10 points for a forfeit)

(3)  Defensive points allowed in all pool games

Once the highest place team is determined by the process above, the sequence is repeated one step at a time beginning with the win-loss record until all places are determined.  If all categories do not determine the order of finish, a coin toss is utilized as a final step.

We love this format and believe it will intensify the competition and give all teams the chance to advance up to play stronger teams, increasing their exposure in front of the College Coaches!

The Double Pump Summer Tip-Off starts on Thursday, July 13, 2017 through Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the American Sports Centers in Anaheim, CA.  For more information, please visit www.doublepump.com.

SUMMER TIP-OFF & BEST OF SUMMER RECEIVES NCAA APPROVAL!

(June 2, 2017) –  It’s official!  The Double Pump Summer Tip-Off (July 13-16, 2017) and the Double Pump Best of Summer (July 20-23, 2017) tournaments have received NCAA approval.  This means that college coaches can attend to evaluate players during the NCAA Live Evaluation period.  July is one of the most important periods for both college coaches and players.  Coaches want to see players in a competitive environment outside of their high school program.  Players are looking to further their basketball career and their education by earning a scholarship to 4-year institution.  Either way, if you’re a hoops junkie, there’s nothing better than AAU ball in July!

DOUBLE PUMP SPRING HOOP FEST – NCAA CERTIFIED!

(March 21, 2017) – Double Pump just received notice from the NCAA Enforcement Certification Approvals Group (“ECAG”) that the Spring Hoop Fest (April 28-30, 2017) application has been APPROVED.

The ECAG is the department within the NCAA that oversees high school events, camps, leagues and tournaments held during the NCAA live evaluation period.   In order for college coaches and recruiters to attend events during the evaluation period, Event Operators must submit an application and abide by the guidelines set forth in the ECAG MANUAL at least 45 days prior to the start of the events (no exceptions, no excuses).  Upon submission of the application, ECAG will review and will notify the Event Operators of any questions or requests for clarification before they render a decision.

If it were that easy.  Within 60 days upon conclusion of the event, Operators must submit a post-event review to ECAG.  In this review, they will look to see that the Operator, Coaches and Teams did not violate any of the rules and regulations outlined in the ECAG MANUAL.  If not, the Operator maintains certification.  If so, they are required to submit explanations to any inquiries.

The certification process can be tedious and it’s the responsibility of all Operators to make sure they are fully aware of the rules and that they adequately communicate the rules to the travel team coaches and players.  By not doing so, Operators are at risk of losing their certification for a period of up to five years as well as the coaches.

Ouch.

NEW RULE! PLAYERS MUST CREATE A USER ACCOUNT IN BBCS SYSTEM

(February 21, 2017) – From the office of the NCAA Enforcement Certification and Approvals Groups (“ECAG”):

For 2017, all athletes must have a profile in the NCAA Basketball Certification System (“BBCS”).

A complete profile is required before the athlete can be placed on a coach’s bench or a team’s roster for an event.  To be eligible for NCAA-certified events, each athlete MUST:

  • Register as a New User in the BBCS
  • Confirm your registration by clicking the registration link in the auto-generated email
  • Watch the educational video.  No more sitting through the same video at EVERY event!
  • Enter school/team information
  • Accept/Reject invitations from team coach(es)

Instructions are available on Page 31 of the NCAA User Manual posted on the NCAA site.  Click on the “ECAG User Manual” for specific instructions.

We recommend starting this process as soon as possible.  The Spring NCAA-live dates are:

  • April 21-23, 2017
  • April 28-30, 2017
