AAU Coaches, Are You Certified? A Memo from the NCAA

We’re just a couple of weeks away from the Double Pump Spring Hoop Fest (April 15-17 2016) and we want to make sure you’re prepared.  The NCAA ECAG (Enforcement Certification and Approvals Group) sent a memo recently to all Event Operators to distribute to Coaches whose teams are participating in an NCAA-certified event this season.

PLEASE NOTE that if you’re not certified through the NCAA, you will not be allowed to coach your team.

Here are some quick tips, but we recommend downloading the entire NCAA Memo , for a step-by-step guide on the certification process.

1. Background Check.

  • All participating coaches must go through a background check with Verified Volunteers.  Cost is $50.00 (plus processing fees) in a non-certified month.  If you wait until April, cost will go up to $100.00 (plus processing fees).  If you arrive to the event and a coach is not certified, he/she will not be allowed to coach.

2. “NCAA Eligibility” Educational Course.

  • Once you’ve gone through the Background Check, you must complete the “NCAA Eligibility” Educational Course.  This will take approximately 45 minutes.  Once completed, you will receive a completion certificate.

3.  Enter Your Team Roster.

  • You must enter a complete roster on the NCAA Basketball Certification System (BBCS).
  • The information must be complete and accurate.  Please read through the NCAA Memo  for the step-by-step guide and instructions.
  • Make sure to “opt-in” to the events you plan to attend.
  • Always keep your roster accurate and updated.  This is the information Event Operators use to create the tournament Coaches’ Packets.  If your roster is not correct or updated, College Coaches will not know who your players are or who to follow. This is the No. 1 complaint from college coaches – inaccurate rosters.
